Do You Miss Your Teen?

Published by Anne under parenting, teenagers Edit This

After two weeks you would think I would be glad to get a break.  I am, sort of.  Soon, much sooner than I am ready, they will be grown and on their own.  Sure, you think they are still kids.  Frankie is 17 and will go away to college next fall.  Lulu is 15 and only has two more years before she is off to school as well.  I have some time for Benny, but it will go by so quickly.  People always say that but few really understand the truth of it.

Skating

Saturday the kids convinced me to go ice skating at the civic center’s open skate.  I was reluctant due to the cost, but each of the kids offered to pay for themselves and Lulu even said she would pay for me.  I paid for me and Lulu, but really appreciated the thoughtfulness of it all.  I would have paid for Frankie and Benny but they arrived before me and Lulu and did not wait before entering.  They really are great kids.

Ice skating was fun.  My goal was to not fall; I accomplished my goal.  Frankie’s boyfriend, best friend, and a few other friends were there as well.  We plan to go back since there will be open skate on Saturday’s for all of January.

Sunday we had brunch.  I do not usually make breakfast (brunch) but bacon just sounded good.  Frankie was impressed as she had a friend over and thought it was great we were actually going to eat as a family during a non-dinner meal.  I made scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes - plain and blueberry, juice for Benny, and there was homemade bread.  Of course Frankie had Publix black cherry soda, not a usual breakfast drink.  Her boyfriend went to Florida and knew it is her favorite so he brought her back a few 2-liters.  It really is the simple things.

Spend time with your kids.  They really do grow up all too fast.  You will miss them when they are gone.  I miss mine and they will be back tonight.  Thank God for that!
